The Peloponnese is one of Europe’s last unspoilt areas of outstanding natural beauty. It offers a wide variety of scenery from majestic mountains, snow capped in winter, to verdant stretches of coastline dotted with numerous bays and inlets. Much of it is off the beaten track and well away from the summer tourist hordes who flock to the popular islands.
Galatas is within easy reach of many attractions. Only a short drive away is the ancient theatre at Epidavros, an important classical site which is still used as a theatre in summer and attracts large audiences, with performances by international theatre companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and stars such as Helen Mirren.
Mycenae, with it famous Lion Gate and one of the most important classical sites in Greece, is only some 70 kms from Taktikoupoli. Nemea a wine growing region famous for its reds which can be tasted at the roadside is well worth a visit.
Nemea was also home to the original games, long before the Olympics and the Nemean games are now held every four years and are open to all comers. Methana with its famous spa baths is very close, and Loutraki with its modern casino is 90 kms away.
