Evia is the second largest of the Greek islands, an island of majestic mountains and beautiful coastal scenery,
It is an island which is blessed by not having an airport nor has it been spoiled by package tourism. Evia remains a very Greek island with traditional villages where life continues as it has done for centuries. It is a paradise for hikers, mountain bikers, birdwatchers, photographers and artists as well as for those who just want to escape to a haven of piece and quiet.
Evia is also one of the most accessible of Greek islands. The ferry terminal at Rafina, is only 30 minutes from Athens International airport The crossing to Marmari takes an hour and it is then a 15 minutes drive to Karystos.
Karystos, the largest town in southern Evia has a full range of shopping facilities and medical services including a hospital, pharmacies and doctors.
It offers a wide choice of restaurants and tavernas in its side streets and on its waterfront. Karystos is a pleasant town with a castle, an ancient fort next to the sea, and a very attractive waterfront, lined with tavernas and cafes. It has its own sandy beach next to the castle and there are further sandy beaches along the length of Karystos bay, both to the north and south of the town.
