<p>Ferries for Eretria depart from Oropos on the mainland, which is only some 75 kms from Athens International airport and the drive mostly by motorway, takes less than an hour. Evia can also be reached by the bridge at Halkida making Evia an island where one can never be cut off from the mainland by bad weather.</p>
<p>Evia is an island which has retained its traditional Greek character and atmosphere. It has not been spoilt by mass package tourism as it has the benefit of not having its own airport. Most tourist are private individuals and families both Greek and international who appreciate the advantages which the island can offer over the more crowded and popular resorts.</p>
<p>Majestic mountain and coastal scenery with many small bays and coves,  which are never busy even in the height of summer make Evia one of the most beautiful of Greek islands.</p>
