Andros is the second largest island in the Cyclades and lies just to the
south of Evia. It has the advantage of not having an airport and has therefore
been able to retain its natural character without being spoiled by an over
abundance of package tourists. It is a
verdant island with many streams tumbling down valleys towards the coast. The
natural springs and water sources produce some of the purest drinking water in
Greece. Indeed in some areas, bottling it ihas become a cottage industry.
Katakilos is a village split into two parts, Upper Katakilos and Lower Katakilos.
The village is 5 kms from the port of Batsi, where there are supermakets and
other shopping facilities and 6 kms from Ateni Beach. There are also tavernas
in the village. There are regular ferry services from Rafina to Andros and the journey takes 2 hours. Rafina is a 20 minute drive from Athens airport.
