VILLAS & HOUSES IN EAST CRETE

Because it has been somewhat isolated by lack of infrastruture, East Crete has not seen the large scale development which has taken place in the West of the island.  In East Crete the villages have remained unchanged, keeping their traditional way of life and their local traditions. Life still centres around the village squares with their tavernas and kafeneions. 

Houses have been renovated in many cases by local craftsmen who have retained the skills in wood and stone which have been handed down from generation to generation. These traditional Greek villages have their own charm, theor own way of life and even their own customs and celebrations. They are all within a short distance of sandy beaches with good swimming and not far from Sitia with its wide range of shopping facilities and services.
